Reading at home is an important part of the second grade reading program. Students will be expected to select books from their school, public, or home library for independent reading this year. Over this school year, daily reading will expose students to various genres of text and will improve their fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. It is our hope that this program, combined with in-school reading activities will help your child to read and reflect upon literature with increased understanding and enjoyment. Homework will usually consist of review and/or practice of concepts taught in class. The amount of time it takes to complete these assignments will vary from one assignment to the next and from student to student. If your child has difficulty completing homework, please contact his or her teacher. Homework is about skill review and learning to be active learners. Please note that families can always notify me if a family need, emergency, holiday or other priority has made it too difficult to complete an assignment. Otherwise students will need to complete homework assignments daily and return them the next day. If homework is missing a child will have to do it during recess.WAYS PARENTS CAN HELP WITH HOMEWORK COMPLETION…
While second graders are expected to complete the homework by themselves, parents can help as homework facilitators in the following ways:
- Help your child select an organized place for homework to be done.
- Help your child establish a consistent schedule for completing homework.
- Encourage and motivate your child to work independently.
